Love the music of Queen? “We Will Rock You” plays in Seattle – 6 days only!

When I first heard of this musical years ago, I was elated and amused. Then I thought, how in the world would a team create a story by stringing together songs from Queen? Here’s the thing: I don’t think it matters. As long as it’s filled with plenty of Queen hits, I’m going to love this show.  The music is theatrical and will fit into the musical theatre form perfectly. But I read on anyway to discover how they were structuring the plot:

We Will Rock You takes place in a future age on a planet once called Earth that is now controlled by a mighty corporation. Globalization is complete. Individuality is taboo. Everyone watches the same movies, wears the same clothes and thinks the same thoughts. Music is generated by the corporation’s computers, rock music is unheard and all musical instruments are banned. The hope of breaking free rests with an unlikely resistance – an alliance of rebel Bohemians, waiting for a hero to lead the battle to bring the power of rock back to the people.”

Ok, sure. That’ll work. Not to mention the lead characters are named Galileo and Scaramouche? This has cult classic written all over it (the show was crowned the UK’s favorite show at the 2011 Olivier Awards, in a category voted on by the public.) It’s going to be cheesy. It’s going to be loud. And yes, I’m going to have the songs stuck in my head all week long. Bring it on.
