Interview with cast member of Tony-Award Winning “SIX” (in Seattle July 12 -23)

I have heard nothing but great things about the musical “SIX” which plays The Paramount Theatre in downtown Seattle July 12-23, 2023. If you’ve seen it, I’d love to hear your (spoiler-free) review!

I had a chance to connect with one of the talented musical theatre actors in the show, Gabriela Carrillo, who plays Catherine Parr in this tour.

If someone is picking one show to see in Seattle this Summer, why is SIX the one to pick?

Gabriela Carrillo (GC): I can guarantee you’ve never had a history lesson quite like this one.

How do you imagine an audience member feeling as they head out after the show?

GC: Empowered, inspired, curious, questioning, energized, joyful.

What’s a memorable moment from a rehearsal or recent performance?

We had Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso in the audience, who is a personal “Queen-spiration” of mine. To meet her and perform for her was incredibly exciting!

What’s a fun challenge about playing your role in SIX?

GC: SIX requires so much multi-tasking and mental sharpness as a performer; to nail the choreography while also being acutely aware of where you are within a formation of 5 other performers (who are all wearing high heels), hitting your lines with perfect comedic timing, listening for music direction with in-ear monitors, singing your face off in plastic corsets and much more — all within an 80-something-minute period? Whew! It’s a marathon! But it makes me feel incredibly capable and strong every time I walk off the stage.

What’s something that surprised you about the production or creative process when you were in rehearsals?

GC: How challenging the show really is! The performers I saw on Broadway before I started the rehearsal process for tour really made it look so effortless and easy, which I think is a testament to their skill and to the kind of stamina you gain doing this show. But it really was, as I mentioned, such a lesson in mental and physical sharpness and multitasking as a performer. It was a really wonderful challenge and reminder of my own strength and capability.

What’s something you love about a fellow cast member or someone involved with the show?

GC: Kristina May-Torsiello is Queen of all things costuming here on the Aragon Tour, and she not only keeps us performers looking incredible on the stage, but at times, off stage too! She was recently my own Fairy Godmother and repaired a gown for me 10 minutes before I was set to walk onto the “Purple Carpet” for our opening night at the Pantages in May. There’s almost no fashion emergency she can’t handle. She goes above and beyond in her role, brings humor and joy to work every day, has the coolest hair, and also has two really adorable dogs. I’m really just a huge fan.

Thank you, Gabriela, for taking the time to share with us. We are excited to have you and the entire cast and crew of SIX here in Seattle!
