Weekly Spotlight: Free dance night, tasty gluten free food, comedy podcasts, more art, and a playful-sexy show

end of July 2024 round-up

SEXY & PLAYFUL SHOW TO SEE:

Y’all should see “Dolly! An original jukebox musical,” the all-new production at Can Can (our fabulous comedy/flirty cabaret in Seattle’s Pike Place Market) while it’s still on stage.  I am a huge fan of productions at Can Can and continue to be surprised when I learn that a friend who finds fun in similar ways that I do hasn’t been there yet. Whether it’ll be your first time or your 20th time to the Can Can, Dolly! Is filled with the laughs, the perfect blend of sexy and silly, the awesome music-mashups, fun costumes, and choreography that will make your evening out truly memorable. The whole creative and performer team is fabulous, led by the gorgeous powerhouse vocals and presence of Jasmine Jean Sim as Dolly! The songs and music mashups include Dolly Parton and songs/artists that embody a similar empowerment vibe (Lady Gaga, for instance).  (PIKE PLACE MARKET)

FISH DISH TO TRY:

Christina introduced me to Ghostfish Brewing Company this week as we caught up over dinner before a sunset dance night. Their fully gluten-free menu is full of tasty looking options. I will definitely go back there again to enjoy their Salmon BLT (with a perfectly bun, better than a lot of the gluten-filled options out there, even!) and their kale caesar salad. (SODO)

LET’S DANCE IN THE PARK:

Dance Church is a high-energy, joyful group dance experience. I’m thrilled to see they are back at Volunteer Park this summer for one night only: August 1. Get ready to sweat and have your face hurt from laughing during this playful, aerobic, pop-music-forward dance. This particular Dance Church event is free! (CAPITOL HILL)

PODCASTS THAT HAVE ME LAUGHING:

I’m pretty obsessed with two comedy podcasts right now: “Handsome” with Fortune Feimster, Mae Martin, and Tig Notaro. It’s pretty much just three hilarious people with great conversation chemistry sitting around and talking about whatever they feel like and I laugh out loud many times each episode. You can listen to them in any order but they do have a few jokes that they build on, so if I were new to the podcast, I would just start with episode one and go from there.

The other comedy podcast I can’t get enough of is “Mike Birbiglia’s Working it Out.” He is a great interviewer and conversationalist (and incredibly well-loved in the stand-up community for good reason: kind, thoughtful, lifts others up, and is hilarious). Flip to an episode that features one of your favorite comedians and give it a listen.

Both of these podcasts are also youtube videos, if you want to see any of their cute faces while you listen. (ONLINE / PODCAST / YOUTUBE)

BIG ART EVENT THIS WEEKEND:

It’s back! The Seattle Art Fair is huge and features a ton of fabulous artists. My family and I had a great time roaming the rows of art last year and I’ll be heading that way again this weekend. If you go, let me know what art / artists are some of your favorites from your visit.

OUT OF TOWN RECOMMENDATION:

I am absolutely in love with the kindly-priced quirky finds at Village Merchants in Portland. I will always make a point to visit that shop during every future Portland trip I make! Recent finds include: a very witchy wooden box, a hilarious denim purse, and Beetlejuice-esque shorts.

Wishing you a great week ahead! Are there events, shops, restaurants or goodies you think I would like and should spread the word about? Let me know!

Sending you love,

Keridwyn / Wonder
