Review by guest blogger, Jeanne Deller:
“Ladies, Gentlemen, and those of you who have yet to make up your minds,” be assured this is one robust, rollicking production like no other. The first national tour of “Kinky Boots” has journeyed forth to expand the minds and hearts of theatre goers across the nation. We are, indeed, fortunate that The 5th Avenue Theatre has brought Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper’s brilliant collaborative endeavors (book and musical score respectively) to Seattle.
Based on a true story, the show’s authentically-designed staging transports the audience to a failing British shoe factory, where the son of the original owner is struggling for survival. The Broadway production’s costume designer Greg Barnes constructed high heels that safely and comfortably support six-foot-plus males of varying weights. How all of the astoundingly nimble “Kinky Boots” cast members mastered song and dance on six-inch stiletto heels remains a mystery to this reviewer.

Steven Booth is perfection in his role as Charlie Price, with outstanding vocal strength and clarity. Lindsey Nicole Chambers’ antics as Lauren are hilarious in “The History of Wrong Guys.” Kyle Taylor Parker is stunning in his versatility and oft heart-wrenching portrayal of Lola, the flamboyant drag artist. Expect exceptional contributions from each and every performer.

Remarkable vocal clarity throughout the first act lost its edge with surprisingly loud orchestration in the first few numbers of the second act. Hopefully this issue has been noted and rectified.
“Kinky Boots” is capturing hearts, minds, and standing Os – on stage at The 5th, now through October 26th. This one you do not want to miss!
