Interview with So You Think You Can Dance performers (see them live Dec 26)

Brandon and I absolutely loved this season of So You Think You Can Dance – we carved out time in our busy schedules to watch each episode on Hulu. The “Stage vs Street” style of Season 12 was fantastic and the season was filled with amazing dancers who had such warm and delightful personalities. There were so many people we wanted to win!

Soooooo…December 26th is your chance to see the amazing Top 10 (and some alternates) perform LIVE in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre! Tickets on sale now.

Here’s the list of the stellar dancers that will be performing in Seattle one night only. They are not only talented, they seem like people that would be awesome to hang out with:

Team Stage: Gaby Diaz (enchanting + she reminds me so much of my Burning Man campmate Neuron), Edson Juarez, Jim Nowakowski, Hailee Payne, Moises Parra, Marissa Milele, Alexia Meyer, and Derek Piquette

Team Street: Megan “Megz” Alfonso (fierce!), Eddie “Neptune” Eskridge, Virgil Gadson (give this man a show in vegas!), Jessica “JJ” Rabone, Yorelis Apolinario, and Jana “Jaja” Vankova (magical).

I had the chance to interview dancers Hailee and Virgil:

Q: What are you excited about for your visit to Seattle?

Hailee: Seattle! I absolutely love Seattle! It is so beautiful there! But what I am most excited for is to see all my friends from there. I assist with a dance convention and we travel to Seattle every year and so I have created strong relationships with a lot of the studios and kids. It will be so fun to have them in the audience!
Virgil: I’m excited to eat the fresh seafood!

Q: What do you see next for your career after SYTYCD? Movies, Musical Theatre, or ??

Hailee: After the tour, I am excited to say that I will be moving to Los Angeles to pursue my dream of becoming a professional dancer. My dream would be to perform backup for Lady Gaga! I think I would die of pure happiness! But as I have been doing the SYTYCD tour and being exposed to more styles, I would mind trying out Broadway! I think Chicago is calling my name! I am not picky though. Wherever my journey takes me, I am excited to see what happens!

Virgil: After SYTYCD I will be working on my own theater show and hopefully movies and commercials along the way!

Q: What are you most passionate about outside of dance?

Hailee: I am very passionate about food! Eating food is my life! I don’t do much besides dance… Ha but on a serious note I do love going to the gym, diving into a good book, and of course hanging out with my family and friends.

Virgil: Outside of dance I’m passionate about my music, clothing line, and traveling.

Q: What is something you learned during SYTYCD that isn’t dance related?

Hailee: I have learned to not sweat the little things. I am such a perfectionist which is a strength and a weakness. I don’t think I would be the person I am today if I wasn’t such a hard critic on myself. But by being on this show I have been reminded that I don’t have to be perfect. I should enjoy life and take everything for what it’s worth. It has really helped me throughout the tour and I feel happier than usual!

Virgil: I’ve learned to have an open mind. To be patient and everything is a learning experience.

Q: How do you want to help continue to get the world excited about dancing?

Hailee: I want to keep sharing my love for dance to get people excited about it. I think by just performing and being yourself, teaching, and being positive can have such an impact on anyone. If I can touch one person, then I have done my job.

Virgil: I want to keep putting out great work and work with the best performers in the world!
(Hey SYTYCD dancers, if you want any tips for your stay in Seattle, let me know. I love playing concierge to people to help them discover places in town they will love.)
