When you work in musical theatre for eight years like I did, you see a LOT of musicals. One of my all-time favorites, Jersey Boys, is coming back to Seattle and playing The Paramount March 8–13.
First off, I love the music. Franki Valli and The Four Seasons songs include Oh What A Night, Walk Like A Man, Sherry, Working My Way Back To You, Who Loves You, and so many more. Play the video below for a little taste.
But where this musical differs from the average “jukebox musical” is that this is the true story of the boys in the band. The story is intriguing. Blue-collar boys on their rise to fame, navigating mob ties, friendships, love interests, and creating songs that have audiences smiling decades later. It’s no surprise this show won four Tonys, including Best Musical in 2006.
I had the chance to ask Aaron De Jesus, the actor who plays Frankie Valli on the tour of Jersey Boys, some questions:
How long have you been touring with Jersey Boys?
I joined the tour 6 months ago. But I’ve been with Jersey Boys for 4 years.
What sets this show apart from other Broadway shows, in your opinion?
It’s like going to a play and a rock concert at the same time. Every aspect of the show is so well planned and executed. The music, script, lighting, sound, set changes, choreography are all so perfectly conceived and executed. What is your favorite scene or number in the show? I love the song “Working My Way Back to You.” It’s a great song and it comes at a time in the show when Frankie is on top of his game.
What’s something you’re excited about experiencing in Seattle during the tour?
EVERYTHING! This is my first time visiting Seattle. I can’t wait to see it all.
