An interview with “The Thin Place” cast member. On now – April 10 at ACT – A Contemporary Theatre

I’m thrilled to head back to ACT – A Contemporary Theatre as an audience member this week! Brandon and I will be seeing The Thin Place which plays now through April 10, 2022.

The length of the show is one I like to check out before planning to attend. I love that this show is 90 minutes with no intermission – perfect!

Here’s ACT’s description of the show which made me interested in seeing it live:

“Can we talk with the dead? Communicate with loved ones we’ve lost? In this mesmerizing new play by Obie Award-winner Lucas Hnath, Linda promises that you can. If you listen — really listen — she can take you to the thin place, the fragile boundary between our world and the next. Perhaps it’s merely a cunning illusion that awakens our deepest desires, but then again so is this spine-tingling show.”

I had the chance to email cast member Abigail Boucher a few questions. Here’s what she shared with me:

Question: How do you imagine an audience member feeling as they head out to the lobby at the end of the show?

Abigail: Full of questions and ready to have great conversations about what they just experienced!

Question: What’s a fun challenge about playing your role in The Thin Place?

Abigail: I get to break the fourth wall and speak directly to the audience, which is both thrilling and a tad scary! Unlike my other scene partners, there is no knowing how they might respond!

Question: What’s something you love about your fellow cast members?

Abigail: It is an absolute joy to get to play with Julie, Alex, and Ray. They are such brave and exciting actors, as well as hilarious and incredibly warm people.

Thanks for taking the time out of rehearsal to answer these questions for us, Abigail! We look forward to seeing you on stage.

The New York Times calls this play “Compelling and delicious!”

On a personal note, I truly LOVED Julie Briskman as the lead role of Sugar in “Tiny Beautiful Things” at Seattle Rep a few years back. My folks loved the show so much, they attended a second time, bringing us along. It was a truly memorable experience and seeing Julie’s name on the cast list made me want to attend The Thin Place even more.

The Thin Place plays now through April 10, 2022. Tickets are available here.

A note on safety: I was thrilled to see ACT’s covid protocols that are in place now through May 31, 2022 (masks required, proof of vaccination or negative test). I will feel much safer and more relaxed knowing this plan is in place. Thank you, ACT!
