It’s probably no surprise to those who know me that the shows I’m most excited for are Disney’s Frozen and The Play That Goes Wrong! Brandon sent me a youtube clip of The Play That Goes Wrong earlier this year and we were in stitches – I look forward to seeing the full production. And Frozen was clearly written with the intention of becoming a Broadway show, so that’s just a given. Chicago is a fantastic musical too – of the shows that I’ve already seem from this list, it’s the one I’m most likely to see again.

Full show descriptions, in their own words:

MISS SAIGON | OCTOBER 29 – NOVEMBER 3, 2019

“A DYNAMITE BROADWAY REVIVAL.” – The New Yorker

Experience the acclaimed new production of the legendary musical MISS SAIGON, from the creators of Les Misérables. This is the story of a young Vietnamese woman named Kim who is orphaned by war and forced to work in a bar run by a notorious character known as the Engineer. There she meets and falls in love with an American G.I. named Chris, but they are torn apart by the fall of Saigon. For three years, Kim goes on an epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea he’s fathered a son. Featuring stunning spectacle and a sensational cast of 42 performing the soaring score, including Broadway hits like “The Heat is On in Saigon,” “The Movie in My Mind,” “Last Night of the World” and “American Dream,” this is a theatrical event you will never forget.

THE HARD NUT | December 6 – 15, 2019

Celebrating its 28th Anniversary, THE HARD NUT is a cascade of wit and wintry beauty.  It’s a lavish, gender-bent love letter to the classic The Nutcracker. Based on E.T.A Hoffman’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, Mark Morris’ version takes it from the straight-laced 1890s to the swinging 70s, with raucous parties, dancing G.I. Joes, whimsical costumes, and a Waltz of the Snowflakes like no other. Based on the comic book art of Charles Burns and featuring Tchaikovsky’s complete original score, performed live by a 53-piece orchestra conducted by Colin Fowler, Morris’ lyrical, modern retelling playfully preserves the warm spirit of an essential holiday tradition.

SUMMER: THE DONNA SUMMER MUSICAL | December 31, 2019 – January 5, 2020

She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn’t know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed.  With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff,” this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.
